SCHORC hosted a special race night for the 1st Southoe and Buckden Scout group. With 22 racers on the grid it was a busy night as a mixture of leaders, Explorers, Scouts and Cubs raced around a fast track based loosely on the classic Monza circuit.

After a bit of practice getting to grips with the club Tycos, the heats got underway. With such a big turn out, it was decided to run 2 minute heats and no finals.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the racing and some real competitive spirit began to emerge as the racing went on. There were some fantastic on track battles and as people started to get to hang of driving the club Tycos, the scores started to build up. Leader Steve took top honours with the best overall score of 74.4 , and fastest lap of 4.101s. He shared the highest single heat score of 25.5 with Jason and junior Finn managed a very impressive 24.8. Tom was overall top junior with 66.5 and Harry was the fastest junior with a lap of 4.137.

Thanks to all who attended and we hope to see you again!

On Sunday SCHORC entered a team in the AFX 6 hour endurance race for the second time under the SCHORC banner. After finishing a disappointing 5th last year, we were hoping to improve slightly this year.

The team’s chief mechanic Paul Rose prepared a fine car that showed very promising pace in free practice.

Paul Rose preparing our car

At 10am the cars lined up on the grid and the race got underway.

The Grid

The first hour of the race was very close but Nick and Lee managed to finish their first stint in P1 just a fraction of a lap ahead of the WHO team. The second hour saw Paul and team captain Al managing to extend their lead. By the half-way point the team were looking to be in a fairly strong position and cautious optimism was starting to spread through the team.

A blinding stint in the fourth hour by Paul Rose saw the team’s lead further extended and while he was at it he also set the fastest lap of the race with a 8.233s lap. The car was briefly off track during this stint to change a bent pick-up which was the only part of the car that needed serious attention during the race.

The closing stages of the race

The final two hours were spent managing the gap to rest of the field who were battling for the other podium positions behind us. At the end of the race we finished with 2038.15 laps, 47.5 laps ahead of our nearest rivals. What a result for SCHORC!
