F1 Tyco and Modified Round 4 Race Report

The Track

For the July club meet, Al had put together a fast circuit with two long straights. The start finish straight led to a “dog bone” corner and the main straight led to a long tightening radius right hander. This then switched back to a tight left hander that opened up leading to a long fast S bend and the start finish straight. The switchback seemed to cause people with the most trouble as it was easy to carry to much speed from the fast entry to the long corner.

Qualifying

Initially with only four racers present it was decided that finals wouldn’t be run and the qualifying order would be final. With Roy arrived halfway through quali it would have been possible to run finals but as the decision had already been made and agreed upon, it wasn’t changed.

A great drive from Tony secured him the top spot for the first time this season narrowly beating Ray by just three tenths of a lap. Ray and his Tyco were running very nicely though and he had the highest total score and also the biggest lapcount with a mighty 38.2 laps in red. Roy took third place 6.9 laps back but with the fastest F1 lap of the night. Paul Rose was fourth ahead of Al in fifth after they both struggled to get to grips with their new Truspeed controllers.

Qualifying

During free practice, Roy noticed that both Al and Paul were setting the driver station brakes control to the wrong setting for their new controllers. Once this was rectified the controllers started to perform properly and they both found them very much to their liking. Al found his Marchon far easier to tame through the lower speed bends and duly took the win along with a big score of 50.9 laps in blue and the fastest lap of the evening with a 3.273s. Paul Rose was second 6 laps behind Al and 11.3 laps ahead of Tony in third. Roy and his SRT took fourth ahead of Ray and his new Marchon that looked promising in the corners but lacked the straight line speed that this month’s track demanded.
