F1 Tyco and Modified Round 6 Race Report

Six racers gathered on a dark and chilly November the fifth for some SCHORC style on track fireworks.

The Track

For the final round of the F1 and Modified Championships Al had laid out a fast sweeping track. The first sector was quite technical but still possible to go hammering through with the right level of commitment.

Due to the low turn out, finals were run in threes with no hop-ups. Tony stormed off in blue to take the early lead in the B final, leading Nick in white and Steve in red. A big off midway through the race left Tony with plenty to do in order to retake the lead. He did however catch Nick and they had a good dice in the closing stages of the race. A last moment off for Nick left him only a single tenth ahead of Steve as Tony took the win.

Paul Rose lead the A final off the line in the white lane ahead of Ray in blue and Al in red. Early offs for Al and Paul left Ray out front but after a succession of offs for everyone things were pretty close at the mid point of the race. Sensing an opertunity Al started pushing a bit too hard and a couple of big offs left him with the bottom step of the podium. Ahead of him Paul and Ray continued to battle right to the end of the race with the lead changing hands several times. In the end Paul took the win by half a lap from Ray with Al just under a lap further back from Ray.

Early on Tony held a narrow lead in white from his brother Steve in Red, but as the race went on Steve couldn’t maintain Tony’s pace and began to drop back. Behind them Ray was struggling with his Marchon that wasn’t quite on the pace required for the track. Tony went on to take a straight forward win by nearly 4 laps with Steve second and Ray third.

After a tentative start, Al in blue quickly eased past Paul in white to lead the A final. A big off for Al on lap 12 allowed Paul to retake the lead. Al began to close the gap back up, but when Paul left the track on lap 20, Al sailed past him and went on to pull out nearly a five lap lead over the course of the remainder of the race. Nick in red couldn’t match the leader’s pace and had to settle for the bottom step of the podium.
