The Track
To host round 2 of the Micro Scalextric Club Class and Super F1 Championships, Al had build an Indianapolis Motor Speedway style oval.
Micro Scalextric Club Class
Qualifying
Tony appeared to be nicely in his groove around the oval and took pole with some consistently big scores in white, blue and red leaving him 2.3 laps ahead of his nearest rival. Despite setting the highest single score in Quali with a mighty 46.6 in white, Paul was pipped to the second grid spot by Al. Paul was just 0.3 laps behind Al and a mere 0.2 laps ahead of Nick in fourth. Ray lined up fifth ahead of Bill and Aston.
B Final
Nick in white looked to have the measure of the other drivers in the B final, gradually pulling away from his nearest rival Ray in blue and going on to take the win with a massive 46.9 laps. After a shaky start for Bill in red, Aston was happily motoring round in third. A few offs for Aston allowed Bill to take third place midway through the race but Aston still finished with a smile on his face.
A Final
Pole sitter Tony got off to great start in blue but Al was hot on his heels in white. Paul in red was also in contention until a series of offs dropped him back. Tony and Al continued to lap more or less neck and neck for the first 50 seconds off the race until some rubbing in one of the corners left Tony in the wall and Al with the lead. Paul later retired from the race leaving Nick to take third behind second place Tony and winner Al.
Super F1
Qualifying
Tony looked even more comfortable round the oval with his Super G+ and he again took pole, this time by 1.4 laps from Nick and his SRT. Aston lined up a very impressive third place after some fantastic driving by the junior racer with his Grandad Ray’s Super G+. Al and his SRT took fourth ahead of Ray and Paul.
B Final
It’s fair to see Paul wasn’t enjoying the oval and he spent much of the B Final trying to see how slowly he could lap the oval in the yellow lane. Ahead of him Al in blue and Ray in white were locked in a titanic battle for the lead. After lapping neck and neck for the first half of the race, an off for Al left him a lap down. Over the next minute Al managed to reel Ray back in but he crashed again before he could pass Ray and Al had to settle for second.
A Final
After a close start, it was Tony in white who emerged with a small early lead from Nick in blue and Aston in Red. After extending his lead, Tony came off on lap 13 and handed the lead to Nick. Tony gradually reeled Nick in before coming off again on lap 26. The final half of the race saw Tony close Nick down again and the pair raced around together until Nick crashed in the final few seconds of the race leaving Tony to take the win by 0.7 laps from Nick. Aston completed what had been a fine evening of driving rolling in to take the final step on the podium.
Thanks to all who attended. Our next meeting is Round 3 of the Tyco F1 and Modified Championships on May the 6th.
