Micro Scalextric Club Class

Qualifying

The reigning Micro Class Champion Paul took the pole by 1.1 laps from Ray. Both had proved to be evenly matched throughout qualifying making for an interesting final. Steve was 2.7 laps behind Ray with Nick fractionally behind by 0.1 laps. Tony was fifth just under 2 laps behind Nick, and Roy brought up the rear just over a lap behind Tony.

Although Nick had the advantage of picking any lane in the ‘B’ Final he drove like a complete donkey leaving Roy and Tony to thrash it out. Despite Tony pulling out the fastest lap of the evening in this class a series of offs allowed Roy to pull ahead. Roy went on to get his highest lap count of the evening and finish overall in 4th place nearly 2 laps ahead of Tony who finished 5th overall.

As anticipated based on qualifying the ‘A’ Final was very hotly contested between Ray and Paul with both drivers taking turns to lead the race throughout the 3 minutes. Steve was never far behind ready to capitalise on any mistakes and managed to put in his fastest lap during the final. It was Paul that came out victorious in the end with Ray just over half a lap behind.

Super F1

Qualifying

Roy made a welcome return to SF1 along with his second car affectionately called ‘Son of Red Peril’ and made easy work of the qualifying stages beating the nearest competition by nearly 8 laps. The rest of the field were reasonably well spread out with Tony qualifying second, followed by Ray, Nick, Paul and Steve bringing up the rear.

It’s fair to say that Paul wasn’t enjoying his MG which had previously served him so well, and beyond 3 or 4 laps of speed seem to be suffering with an overheating motor. Nick made up for some inconsistent racing earlier in the evening and won the B Final by over 4 laps and even managed to put in a fastest lap time (soon to be taken away). Paul and Steve had been competing for 5th spot but nearly a minute in to the B Final a series of offs allowed Paul to put some distance between the two and finish in 5th spot mirroring the qualifying positions.

After a close start to the race some offs for Tony and Ray allowed a very consistent Roy to get some distance from the others. Some early offs for Tony gave Ray the advantage in second but Tony with the superior speed went about reeling Ray back in and in the latter stages of the race went through to take second place. There was a period of 3 or 4 laps where Tony and Roy were exchanging fastest lap times both demonstrating just how competitive a well-tuned SRT and SG+ can be in this class.
