The Track

A bright and sunny spring evening in Yelling saw 6 racers take to a technical and challenging circuit laid out by Al.

F1

Qualifying

With reigning F1 Champ Ray not able to make the evening’s racing, his rivals were keen to take advantage of his absence. Al took pole seeming most at home on the technical track with his Tyco looking like one of the best handling cars out there. Paul was just over 6 laps back from Al and 5 laps ahead of Nick. Matt was fourth, just three tenths behind Nick and ahead of Tony and Steve who finished off the grid.

C Final

The C Final was made up of the two Stacey brothers with Steve in red and Tony and white. Tony hadn’t been feeling quite himself all evening and retired 15 laps in leaving Steve to take an uncontested win.

B Final

Nick got off to a good start in red leading Steve in blue. An off for Nick gave Steve the lead for a short time until Steve came off and handed Nick back the lead that he would hold to the end of the race. Matt in white had a shaky start before getting into his groove and settling into a nice consistent pace that allowed him to overhaul Steve midway through the race and take second.

A Final

After a close start pole man Al emerged as the early leader in the blue lane. Paul in red was close behind him initially before dropping back as the race went on. With a bit of space in hand, Al was able to manage the gap to Paul and gradually pull out a cushion of several laps. A big early off for Nick in yellow left him on the back foot and in third. Al went on to take his first F1 win of the season.

Mod

Qualifying

With Tony deciding to head home due to not feeling well, five were left on the grid for Mod. The technical track proved quite challenging for the faster Mod cars but Al managed to take pole again, this time by over 12 laps from Nick. Paul lined up third ahead of Steve and Matt.

B Final

Paul appeared to have a significant pace advantage on his rivals in the B final and stormed off in white quickly pulling out a lead over Steve in blue and Matt in red. Despite a number of late offs for Paul, the order didn’t change and Paul took the win by 2.6 laps.

A Final

For the first four laps of the A final, there was little separating Al in blue, Nick in red and Paul in white. Paul was the first to lose it leaving Al and Nick battling of the lead. After 10 laps of frantic dueling, Nick crashed and dropped back to third. With Al left out front and able to manage his pace again, Paul and Nick battled for second place with the position changing hands several times before Paul dropped right back and decided to retire. Up front Al cruised on to take his second Mod win of the season.

A bright spring evening saw 6 SCHORCers gather for an evening of fast paced racing.

The Track

Al had laid out a handling track the rewarded commitment through a series of fast bends.

Micro Scalextric Club Class

Qualifying

Big scores across all four lanes saw Quick Nick claim pole position by 1.2 laps from Paul. Al lined up third 3.1 laps ahead of Ray who had pipped Tony to the fourth grid slot by just two tenths of a lap. Matt finished off the order but was less than a lap behind Tony and clearly getting better and better as the evening went on.

C Final

After a tentative opening lap, Tony started to motor in the yellow lane. Matt in red wasn’t far behind him though until an off on lap 8 dropped him back. A couple of offs for Tony kept the race interesting but in the end he took the win by just over a lap.

B Final

An ambitious first lap for Al in red saw him throw his car off the table and under some chairs in the corner of the hall. The car was recovered during a track call that only left him a lap back. Pushing hard to try and make up the lost ground Al came off again and again leaving him a distant third. Tony in white initially had the edge on Ray in Yellow. A few mid race offs for Tony saw Ray sweep by and take the win by two laps.

A Final

Paul got off to a good start in Yellow and suffering from just a single off halfway through the race, took a straight forward win from Nick in Red and Ray in white. On his way to victory Paul racked up the highest lap score with a mighty 40.2 and a fastest lap of 4.200. Looking over his shoulder, the reigning champion may have noticed that new member Matt’s fastest lap of 4.272 was only 72 thousands of a second off his own…

Super F1

Qualifying

The track clearly suited the SRT chassis with Al and Nick taking the first two grid slots with their SRTs. Ray and his SG+ lined up third ahead of Tony in fourth. Matt lined up fifth ahead of Paul who had been tinkering with his Mega G throughout Quali and generally going for the fastest lap rather than a good grid position.

C Final

Despite or perhaps because of all his tinkering, Paul’s car refused to move off the line on the warm up lap. Al lent Paul one of his Mega Gs and with one of Paul’s axles it proved to be quite a beast. Paul almost instantly set a new fastest lap and proceeded to romp off in the blue lane to take the highest score of the night with 49.5 laps. Poor Matt in white could do little against such a machine but again finished with some great laptimes and scores.

B Final

Paul hopped up into the blue lane again but got off to a shaky start. However it wasn’t long before Paul had passed Tony in Yellow and then Ray in red. Paul went on to take the win by just a whisker under 2 laps from Ray with Tony nearly seven laps further back.

A Final

By this point Al was questioning his decision to lend Paul his chassis. With Paul again in the blue lane he once again scampered off in the lead. Behind him Al in red and Nick in white spent the first three laps with little between them. An off for Nick left Al fruitlessly chasing after Paul until Al binned it and then apparently decided to settle for second. Over the middle portion of the race Paul gradually eased out his lead while Al began to build a cushion to Nick. A huge off for Al on lap 34 wiped out his cushion to Nick and sent him down to third place though. Offs for both Nick and Al three laps later left Al slightly closer and he gradually reeled Nick in over the remainder of the race. The race ended with Paul taking another comfortable win while behind him both Al and Nick finished off the track with Al just a whisker ahead.

A chilly March evening played host to the second round of the F1 and Mod Championships. Six SCHORC regulars were joined by Matt who was trying out HO club racing for the first time.

The Track

Al had laid out a fairly fast track which had a smattering of tight bends and a cheeky chicane to keep things interesting.

F1

Qualifying

With strong scores across all four lanes, no one was surprised to see Ray on pole. Al lined up behind him having scored 3 fewer laps. Paul took the third spot a further half lap behind Al and nearly two laps ahead of Nick in fourth. Nick set the highest single score of quali with a mighty 41.8 in the blue lane was was also the only one to set a sub 4 second lap. Steve lined up fifth ahead of Tony and Matt. Matt seemed to be enjoying himself and was setting some respectable lap times while working on his consistency.

B Final

After his impressive work in the blue lane in quali, it was no surprise that Nick took a fairly straightfoward victory in the B Final while also improving on what was to be the fastest F1 lap of the night. Behind him Steve in white made a good start and ran P2 until a big off on lap 3 sent him to the back of the field where he was to remain. After a shaky start for Tony in red he found himself running in second with Matt in yellow behind him. After a few troubled mid race laps Tony dropped back to P3 and left Matt running in P2. After that Tony seemed to get his groove back and passed Matt to claim second place.

A Final

A good start for Paul in yellow saw him hold the early lead of the A final from Nick in white, Al in blue and Ray in red. After a series of offs, Nick dropped back and decided to retire. An off for Paul on lap 8 handed Al the lead which he held until lap 21 when a big off left him third. Paul retook the lead and managed to peg the gap to a hard charging Ray behind him. Paul was able to hold that lead despite a late off that luckily followed a larger off for Ray on the previous lap. Paul duly took his first win of 2016 by just over a lap from Ray.

Mod

Qualifying

Following a screenwash flush of its motor, Al’s Mod was looking quite formidable and he took pole by a fairly comfortable margin of 7.2 laps from Paul. Ray lined up third ahead of Nick, Matt and Steve.

C Final

Matt in blue had a reasonable pace advantage over Steve in yellow but a number of offs kept the race quite interesting and in the end Matt took the win from Steve by just a matter of a foot!

B Final

Ray in red took the win in the B final from the red lane. Behind him Nick in blue and Matt in white had an interesting battle with P2 changing hands several times over the course of the race. In the end Nick triumphed but Matt should be pleased with his progress after setting his highest score of the evening in his final race.

A Final

The A Final was a frantic affair with Al in red holding the early lead with Paul in blue just 3 seconds behind him and still on the lead lap. Ray in the hop up white lane couldn’t match their pace and was dropping back from the leaders at a rate of around 0.15s per lap. A big off for Al on lap 21 handed Paul the lead. Al was only a fraction of a second behind Paul though and gradually closed him in until he was running right behind Paul. Perhaps feeling the pressure, an off for Paul on lap 34 handed the lead back to Al. Only a few laps later however Al binned it and found Paul running around neck and neck with him again. Al breathed a sigh of relief after Paul lost it on lap 47 and he managed to hold onto the lead despite a final off in the last few moments of the race.

Despite all the action, over the course of the race Al and Paul were never more than a lap apart!

The Track

A chilly February evening in Yelling played host to the first round of Micro Scalextric Club Class and Super F1. Al had laid out a fairly wiggly track with a couple of 6 inch bends thrown in for good measure. Tony had freshly serviced the club Micro XJ220s and they were raring to go.

New for this year are “Autosport” style race graphs which show the gap to the average race pace of the leader. Hopefully they show more detail of what happened in a race compared to our old style race graphs.

Micro Scalextric Club Class

Qualifying

Al took pole by 2.5 laps from reigning champion Paul who wasn’t 100% happy with the freshly serviced Jaguars for some reason. Nick lined up third just over a lap behind Paul and nearly two laps ahead Ray. Tony took the fifth spot on the grid ahead of Steve.

B Final

Ray in white took the early lead of the B Final, gradually pulling away from Steve in red and Tony in yellow. Tony showed some great pace in the middle of the race and passed Steve for 2nd place but a few offs sent him back to third while Ray took the win.

A Final

Paul in yellow was initially out front in the A final with Nick in white hot on his heels. An early off on the second lap for Al left him trailing in last place, however an off for Ray in blue and then Nick promoted Al to second. Al had the hammer down too and he was slowly reeling in Paul. As the gap came down below a half a second Paul binned it and gave Al the lead. Al went on to take the win by just over a lap from Paul. Ray took the final step on the podium by just a three tenths of a lap from Nick.

Super F1

Qualifying

Ray and his Super G+ took pole by just under a lap from Al and his SRT. Tony and his Super G+ lined up third ahead of Nick and Steve. Paul lined up last after largely writing off Quali due to a series of issues with his Mega G.

B Final

Nick took a straight forward win from the red lane in the B final. Paul retired on the third lap from the blue lane and Steve in white couldn’t match Nick’s pace.

A Final

Al briefly had the early lead of the A final from the white lane before a big off sent him back to fourth. Ray in blue then went rocketing off in the lead. Al could just about match his pace in white but Ray had 2 laps in hand. Tony in red was struggling for consistency and had to settle for fourth place behind Nick in third. Up front a couple of late offs for Ray used up most of his two lap cushion and he finished just four tenths of a lap ahead of Al.

The Track

To mark 25 years of HO club racing in the UK, we joined WHO, CHORC and DHORC in running the same track that CHORC used for their first meeting in 1991, albeit without the banked corners. The final complex of the track complete with the very tight Pepsi chicane looked likely to be unpopular but as it turned out, when approached with the required level of caution it wasn’t too bad. A bridge is always a bit of fun too, and the Dulux Bridge didn’t disappoint.

F1

Qualifying

Ray continued his run of F1 poles taking the first of this year by 1.5 laps from Nick. Tony was a further 1.3 laps behind in third, ahead of Al, Steve and Paul who had been suffering with a migraine and car troubles.

C Final

Clearly feeling better, Paul in blue held the lead of the C Final for the duration of the race, Steve in red kept him honest throughout and finished just two tenths behind.

B Final

Al in blue took the early lead of the B Final from the blue lane. A long off dropped him behind Paul in red and with Paul apparently having a bit more pace than Al, that was that. Tony in white rolled in third after struggling with his car.

A Final

A good threeway battle was the opening to the A final. Paul was the first to fall from the white leane before an uncharacteristic off from Ray in blue gave Nick the lead in red. Nick kept his head and pounded round to take the his first F1 win, the highest score of the night and his third club win in a row!

Mod

Qualifying

With a fresh set of pickups fitted to his MR1, Ray duly took his first Mod pole by 2.4 laps from Al who had failed to get to grips with the white and blue lanes. Paul was third ahead of Nick, Steve and Tony. Steve and Tony were running historic Tyco 440X2 cars prepared by Tony to further mark the occasion.

C Final

Tony held a narrow early lead from the yellow lane before an off handed Steve in red the lead. Steve kept it clean and took the win by half a lap after a very close race.

B Final

Paul in blue took a fairly straightforward win from Nick in white and Steve in red.

A Final

A crash a turn one on the first lap for Al in yellow put him straight into third and on the back foot, a position he never recovered from. Paul in blue narrowly held the lead from Ray in red for the majority of the race but an off on lap 26 for Paul put Ray in front. Ray went on to take his first Mod win and the highest score of the evening.

Five racers gathered in Yelling for the final club night of the 2015 season.

The Track

Al had laid out an interesting track with a tight and tricky first complex and faster more sweeping section at the end of the lap.

Micro Scalextric Club Class

Qualifying

Champion elect Paul took his fourth Micro Scalextric pole of the season by 1.6 laps from Al. Nick was third a further 0.6 laps behind Al with Ray fourth followed by Tony.

B Final

Nick in Yellow was initially hounded by Tony in blue, while Ray started off on the back foot with a couple of early offs. Ray soon got into his groove though and overhauled Tony who seemed to be struggling to keep things consistent in blue. Up front Nick was absolutely pounding around and he took the win and the highest score of the class with a mighty 38.1 laps.

A Final

After hopping up to the tricky blue lane, Nick probably had fairly low expectations for the A final but early on he found himself challenging Paul in yellow for the lead. Tony had whispered some tips for the blue car in Nick’s ear, and they seemed to be doing the trick. Al was struggling in red and worse his car seemed to be constantly taking Paul’s out if the entered any of the circuits tighter bends together. With Paul frustrated by the series of accidents Nick sailed on to take the win and fastest lap of the class.

Despite the frustration, Paul won the Micro Scalextric Championship for the fourth year in succession.

Super F1

Qualifying

Perhaps buoyed by his success in the previous class, Nick set the highest scores in all but one of the lanes and took his first Super F1 pole of the season. Ray was 1.5 laps behind Nick with Tony a further 5 laps back in third. Al lined up fourth ahead of Paul in fifth.

B Final

Tony made a good start in yellow and held the early lead of the B Final after early offs for Paul in blue and Al in white. Al was soon on Tony’s tail though and the two raced hard for the lead for much of the final. Paul wasn’t happy with his car which seemed to drop of the pace before he retired it on lap 25. A series of offs for Tony at the end of the race allowed Al to take the win and hop up to the A final.

A Final

The white lane didn’t seem to suit Al’s car and he was soon a distant third in the A final behind Ray in red and Nick in blue. A few offs for Nick left Ray with a substantial lead, but a long off for Ray bought Nick right back into contention and gave him a small lead. Ray slowly closed the gap up again before another off dropped him back. Ray set about closing down the gap yet again but ran out of time and Nick finished just a single tenth ahead of him taking his first ever double win.

Nick’s win put him level on points with Ray in the championship but Nick’s single win meant that he was the championship winner! Al did just enough to claim the combined Micro Scalextric Club Class and Super F1 championship by a single point from Ray.

A damp and dark evening in Yelling formed the backdrop to the F1 and Modified Championship showdowns.

The Track

Al had laid out a long “L” shaped track with a quite technical section at one end.

F1

Qualifying

Despite going into the final round of the championship with a healthy lead, Ray was possibly suffering from some nerves as Al became the first person to beat Ray to pole in F1 all season. Ray was only 0.7 laps behind Al though with Tony behind him in third. Nick lined up fourth ahead of Steve who completed the grid.

B Final

After a close opening 6 laps, Tony in blue, emerged as the leader of the B final. Nick kept him honest from the yellow lane finishing only 0.6 laps behind Tony with Steve a further 4 laps behind in red.

A Final

Again possibly suffering from some nerves, an early off put Ray on the back foot. Al in red was left battling Tony in white for the lead. A few offs for Tony left Al with a reasonable cushion that he was able to maintain until the end of the race. Tony and Ray had a good battle for second with Tony taking the place 1.4 laps behind Al and 1.2 ahead of Ray.

Despite his slight wobble in the final round Ray claimed his first piece of SCHORC silverware in the form of the Tyco F1 Championship Trophy!

Mod

Qualifying

With Paul Rose unable to race due to a migraine, Al had effectively already won the Modified Championship. After a couple of disappointing showings in the last couple of rounds Al was keen to take the championship in style. Despite some teething issues with his recently repaired Porsche, Al duly took his second pole of the evening. A good performance from Tony saw him line up behind Al and ahead of Ray, Nick and Steve.

B Final

A consistent drive by Ray in red saw him take the B final win. Nick in yellow ran him close in the early stages of the race before dropping back and scrapping with Steve in blue. Nick finished just under five laps behind Ray and just over a lap ahead of Steve.

A Final

Al got off the line well in red and was able to deploy slightly more pace than Tony in blue and Ray in white to gradually ease away from them. A few offs for Ray dropped him back behind Tony and that order remained until the end of the race with Al taking the win by just under 4 laps from Tony with Ray a further 3 laps back.

Al won the Modified Championship for the fifth straight year and also took the combined F1 and Modified Championship.

Thanks to all who attended and congratulations to both Champions! Our final race of this season is on Wednesday the 2nd of December and we’re hosting the next THORL round on December the 5th.

With the nights drawing in, 7 racers gathered in Yelling for the penultimate round of the Micro Scalextric Club Class and Super F1 championships.

The Track

Al had laid out a very compact track that needed minimal marshalling but still packed in plenty of interest.

Micro Scalextric Club Class

Qualifying

Following a closely faught Quali battle, the top three were separated by just four tenths of a lap. Roy took pole position two tenths of a lap ahead of Ray with Al a further two tenths back in third. Nick lined up fourth ahead of Jim who was making a welcome visit back to SCHORC. Bill and Steve completed the order with Bill taking the fastest lap of the quali session.

B Final

Bill in red took the early lead of the B Final following early offs for Nick in white, Jim in blue and Steve in yellow. Nick and Jim entered into a tense race long battle that saw them pass Bill before the end of the first minute. The lead changed hands several times between Jim and Nick over the course of the race but it was Nick that came out ahead by just two tenths of a lap when the chequered flag fell.

A Final

Nick couldn’t do much in the hop up Yellow lane and Al in white, Ray in red and Roy in blue quickly pulled away. Following mistakes from Al and Roy, Ray found himself with the lead and small cushion. Despite further offs for all the drivers, the order didn’t change again and Ray took his maiden Micro Scalextric victory.

Super F1

Qualifying

With Bill and Jim heading home, five were left on the grid for Super F1. Roy’s Red Peril was once again the class of the field and he took pole by over 6 laps from Ray. Nick lined up third ahead of Al and Steve.

B Final

Al got off to a good start in red and kept it on the black stuff to take a strong win from Nick in white and Steve in blue. Steve and Nick had as good battle in the middle of the race with Nick coming out ahead in the final phase of the race and going on to take second place.

A Final

For the first few laps of the A final things were pretty close with Roy in blue holding a narrow lead from Al in white and Ray in red. Following a mistake from Roy, Ray briefly took the lead but Roy seemed to have the measure of him and gradually caught and past him. With Roy out front Ray would almost certainly have finished in second ahead of Al but his pinion failed on lap 23 and he was forced to retire handing second place to Al.

The Track

Al had laid out a cheeky little track for the penultimate rounds of the F1 and Modified Championship.

F1

Qualifying

Ray maintained his clean sweep of this season’s F1 pole positions with his fifth in a row. Paul was his closest rival 4.1 behind and 2 laps ahead of Al in third. Nick equaled Al’s best three scores but lost out on his total score. Tony lined up fifth ahead of Bill.

B Final

A good start saw Bill hold the early lead of the B Final from the red lane. Nick in white and Tony in blue past Bill after a few laps before Nick came off and briefly handed Tony the lead. Tony crashed a few laps later and the two of them then drove around together for a several laps until electrical issues for Tony sent him back to third. Nick won the race by 4.8 laps from Bill with Tony a further lap down in third.

A Final

Al in red managed to get ahead of Ray in white and left Paul lagging in third. Ray had more pace than Al though and as he was catching Al, he came off and handed Ray the lead. The order didn’t change again for the rest of the race although Paul got very close to Al at one stage. Ray took his third win of the season by just over 2 laps from Al with Paul two and half laps further back in third.

Mod

With Bill having to head home it was decided that the track should be simplifed to only require two marshals. The result was a very fast power track.

Qualifying

Paul took his first Mod pole of the season 5.3 laps ahead of Al who bent his rear axle during Quali. Ray was a further 5.3 laps behind Al and 1.2 laps ahead of Nick and Tony completed the grid.

B Final

Tony had a series of issues in the blue lane before retiring and allowing Nick to take a very straightforward win from the red lane.

A Final

After a close start Paul in the red lane emerged as the early leader of the A final ahead of Al in white and Ray in blue. With Al’s car damaged he couldn’t keep pace with Paul and had his work cut out to keep ahead of Ray. A few late offs for Ray took the pressure of Al as Paul went on to take his second Mod win of the season.
